Dimestore

Stash! Remember dimestores? I used to love them! There used to be one in Trenton, so I went for a ride yesterday to see if it was still there. Lo and behold, it was! It used to be I think a D&C or a Ben Franklin. Now it's called something else, can't remember the name, Shoregrove or something like that, not a well known name or anything. Of course I had to look at the yarn. They had Sugar & Cream, all of it 99 Cents. All of it! It was the 2.5 ounce solid and the 2 ounce ombre. I didn't have a lot of money on me, so I only bought 5 balls. I will definitely go back and get more. Lots of colors, more than Michael's or Joann's. I was so excited!

I did start the Feather & Fan dishcloth. I'm using Sugar & Cream Stripes in lime green, which I already had. It's going to be huge. 58 stitches were cast on. I'm using #7 US needles not the #8 called for in the pattern. It's so nice to be working on something colorful!

The scarf is done!

Yay! The scarf is done! When I posted last night the scarf was 49 inches long. I was going to take it to 60 inches, changed my mind and decided on 52 inches with fringe. Sat down to knit some more before bed and then measured. It was 54 inches! I decided that's long enough, I can add fringe and be done with it. Got up this morning and bound it off, weaved in the ends and added the fringe. It's done!

Now, onto something new . . . something small and quick! So many choices and things I've got lined up. I want to start a feather & fan dishcloth with Sugar & Cream stripes, and some mittens with the blue yarn I got not too long ago at knit night, and a pattern I found for a little candy bag, or for whatever. Also got some yarn waiting to make the grands some hats for Christmas. Oh so many projects waiting! Can't wait to get started on something that's not a scarf. Hopefully I'll have lots of knitting time. I'm off work until Tuesday. The kid comes home from college tomorrow for a visit, looking forward to seeing her. But for now, time to clean up and head out to the library and maybe Joann's, heheheheh!

The Never Ending Scarf

Bad picture. It's the knit along from Rachel's Room, Snoopy or Joe Cool. Real hard to see it. It's done with Sugar & Cream in the color cream. Maybe I should have used a different color. And it's pretty big.

Still working on the never ending scarf. It's now up to 49 inches. I'm going to do 3 more inches and quit. I've had enough. I should be able to crank out 3 inches hopefully in an hour. Then weave in the ends and add fringe. Then I can move on to something colorful!

Nice short post. I don't think anyone reads this anyway.

Making Progress

I'm making some progress here. I've been working on this scarf for 2 weeks now. It's now 34 inches long. I think I'll take it to 60 inches. This is what I've gotten done from one skein so far. It's from Plymouth Yarn, Galway Colornep, 90% wool, 10% polyester neps. The scarf is 30 stitches across, size 8US needles, knit 2, purl 2 all the way across, do the same thing on every row. Boring as heck, but good knitting for watching TV or for going to knit club cuz there's not a lot of concentration on this.

Hey, you can see my shadow taking the picture, lol!

Scary Weather

Boy did we have some scary weather go through last night. Severe storms, lots of lightning, rain and wind. About 50 miles away there were tornadoes. The destruction is awful. They are confirming 2 tornadoes, and still deciding on whether the other 3 were tornadoes. I feel for those people. I'm OK where I am. And it's still horribly humid this morning. I have the windows open just because I'm so sick of the AC being on 24/7. It's 73 degrees, not real bad temp-wise, but 94% humidity. Ughhhhh. I was vacuuming and it was real hard to push the vacuum around.

Anyway, I finished my mid-August knit-along. Cables. I think it turned out pretty good for me. The cables weren't that bad to do. I finished the other knit-along I was working on but it's too icky and wet outside to take a pic. I'll photograph it when it dries up a little bit out there.

Still missing the kid. It's not as bad as it was. I can at least look at pictures of her again without bursting into tears. And I can look at little gifts and things around the house that she has given me. We'll both be fine. Big adjustment period.

Transition

I'm lost. My baby has gone off to college. Now what do I do? I miss her like crazy. She's gotten sick since she's been there, homesick too. She went to the infirmary, they did tests, and she has a form of mono. Sheesh. And I'm not there, she's going to have to take care of herself. Then there were tornado warnings today where she is, and now a thunderstorm/tornado watch. We've got the same watch where I am. It rained like crazy on our drive there, rained some more while unloading, rained some more on my drive home. Why couldn't the so called drought last another day? Oh well, it's over now.
So, to feel better I fell off the wagon and bought a little bit of stash. I got some Wool Ease on clearance at Michael's for $2 a skein, some Peaches & Cream from Walmart and some of the new Sugar & Cream stripes from Joann's. I also got some bamboo US#7 needles and some US#8 dpn's on sale at Joann's. It helped me feel better. Stash always does.
That tomato is from my garden. Finally got a red one that no animals had gnawed on yet.
Time to go keep an eye on the sky again.

Monthly KAL time

This is the first August knit along for Monthly Dishcloths. A cute dolphin.

Today the new knit along started. I haven't started it yet, don't know if I will. It is cables and I do need to practice cables. I just don't have the time right now. So I'll keep printing out the pattern rows and then decide.

Life is in transition right now. My baby leaves for college on Monday and we've got lots to do. I can't concentrate on much at the moment. Just her. So I'll leave the cable dishcloth alone for now and just work on the scarf I'm making for my son, very easy, knit 2 purl 2 over and over and over. Mindless.

Yarn Diet

Pretty yarn! I've never used this brand, so I'm looking forward to it. And it didn't cost me a thing, it was a gift at knit night! I didn't go off this durn yarn diet. I hate dieting. But I'm sticking to it, barely. I've got enough stash for a while, so I'm knitting from stash. My wallet is pretty empty what with getting the kid ready to leave for college. So, I'm very happy with my new yarn. I think I'll make some mittens from a pattern I found on line where the top part flips over to reveal fingers. Can't wait to dig in! But for now I'm working on the scarf for my son for Christmas. It's going slow cuz I really haven't had much time to knit in the last few days, but got a couple hours in tonight at knit night.

Farm Market Day

Muggy today.

I got Mom's mittens and scarf done. It's for Christmas. I've started a scarf for my son, but it's wool and I just can't seem to get going on it. Too hot to touch wool.

Just got back from a run to the farm market out by the airport. Stuff is soooooo cheap. Got some fresh corn on the cob, grapes, new potatoes, peaches, garlic, mushrooms, a couple bags of chips and a couple packages of cookies, all for under $20. Not bad. It's always so crowded there, but so worth it. I'll probably go back maybe next weekend. They had a cute little ladybug yard pick/stake type thing for $1.99. I want it!

I want to go to Michael's. They have some yarn on sale that I want to touch. This yarn diet is killing me, but I can still go touch. And if the yarn drags me to the counter while in my hand, I'll have to pay for it. Can't shoplift ya know.

I'm melting

It's so hot. I think one more day of this humidity and then it will just be in the 80s with low humidity. Feels like a tropical rain forest.

Haven't been knitting too much. Made a little makeup purse for my friend's breast cancer fund raiser. Finished the KAL dolphin dishcloth. Made a blue and white and a pink and white gramma's favorite dishcloths for my daughter. Just little stuff. Started a wool scarf for my son for Christmas. I couldn't stand touching the wool and I didn't like how it looked, so I frogged it and haven't restarted it yet. It was going to be huge across, 38 stitches, that just seemed so big. I'll start over in a day or so. I'm going to make another breast cancer ribbon pink dishcloth and then maybe this heat will break and I'll be able to touch the wool again.

Been too lazy to even take any pics for the blog. So no pics today.

I did sign up for an etsy account, heheheheh. Bought some soap, can't wait until it comes. I think etsy is going to be my new addiction. So, I'm off to surf some more.

Please send ice cream

Ughhhhhhhhh, it sure is hot. I have no energy when it's like this. I hate being cooped up in the summertime.

Went to knitting night last night. It was nice. I finished the breast cancer pink dishcloth I was making and gave it to its intended recipient there on the spot, so no I don't have a picture of it. I didn't want to leave, so I started a grandma's favorite dish/wash cloth for my daughter. Today the mystery dishcloth knit-along started, so I got my nine rows of that done until tomorrow when I get another set of rows. I guess I'll head back to the couch and work on grandma's favorite for the evening. I did go outside and watered my poor flowers, it was so hot, wasn't out there but maybe five or ten minutes and sure worked up a sweat. I know I'll be crying in about 6 months cuz I'll be freezing, but I really don't like the 90 degree temps.
