Drowning in Snow

Yep, you guessed it. More snow. The never ending snow battle this winter. This angel is on my back deck, she stays there all year. Before the snowstorm yesterday:

And this is how she looks this morning. Snow, snow, snow. Everywhere. Can't escape it.

I'm sick of snow. The only good thing about it is I stay inside and knit! I've started and frogged lots of stuff lately. I just can't seem to get it right the last few days. I did start this yesterday and it stayed on the needles. It looks like a mess right now.

It's a ruffle for something. I'm still learning my camera settings so it's a little blurry. I'll be working on that ruffled thing for a long time. One of those things where you work on it, put it down and work on something else, come back to it, etc.

I did get another preemie hat done. This one is so tiny! That's a Glade candle next to it. The hat is made with Plymouth DK Baby. So soft. I really like that yarn.

I gave up working with that mohair yarn I showed you the other day. Ughhh, a pain to work with. I just didn't like it. Another item into the frog pond. But I did get the Who? Hat done. I love it!

I'll probably give it to my grandson next Christmas. I made the child size but I can actually fit it on my head even though it doesn't cover my ears it will cover his.

And that's about it for today. Gotta dig out of this white mess AGAIN, and then I'll probably just stay in today and play with my yarn.

The winter that just won't quit

Snow, snow and more snow. It just won't stop this winter. It's snowing now, possibly 6 to 10 inches will hit the ground before it's done. Ughhhhhhhhhhh. But, the good thing about being inside when it snows is I can knit all I want. Just sit and blissfully knit while glancing occasionally out the window and watching it from the inside. Very peaceful.

I have been working on the little preemie hats. I have three done so far.

So tiny and precious! I love each one. I'll drop them off at the LYS in the near future, might even get some more done before I do that. I have plenty of yarn to make more. I've been on a yarn buying spree lately. Can't stop. Don't want to. It's been fun!

I've also been working on a hat from a Ravelry knit-along. The Who Hat. Little owls all around it. I've got the owls done, pretty soon I'll start the decreasing.

I'm making the child size, but I really think it will fit an adult. Not sure now if I'll give it to my grandson, it might be too big. I'll wait and see how big the finished product is.

I went shopping at Joann's with my sister yesterday. A grand time was had! I'll show you more yarn next post. We exchanged Christmas goodies with each other. Look what I got!

More yarn! And an absolutely wonderful beautiful Matroyshka doll! I just love her! She's staying out year round, too cute to put away. I need to find a place of honor for her. And she burned me a CD of Christmas music which I just love! I listened to it this morning, why not, it feels Christmasy with the snow falling.

That's about it for today. I'm going to go straighten up the house a little. My daughter has left and is safely back at school. After my chores, I will hit the couch with my yarn and needles and watch the snow fall from the inside . . . and pray a nice neighbor will snowblow it for me.

Have a great weekend!

Christmas cookies!

We've been baking and baking and baking here! Lots of fun with my daughter. Here she is, hard at work making and decorating sugar cookies.

It just tickles me to see her so hard at work. I love that kid to pieces! Here are the finished cookies.

I also made some Chex mix, some call it Chex Muddy Buddies, some call it Puppy Chow. Whatever you call it, it's yummy!

And, I made some rum balls. They are to die for, so good. They just taste like Christmas!

I've also made some fudge, and some cookies called cherry berry bars. So many goodies in the house at the moment!

And let me tell you, I'm so glad to be in the house. More snow today. It just won't stop falling from the sky. But now it has changed to freezing rain, I can hear it hitting out there. Scary. I'm so glad I'm as snug as a bug in a rug in my house! Hope you're all cozy too!

Is it spring yet?

More snow yesterday. It snowed all day. So what do I feel like doing when it snows? Baking cookies! This went into the oven:

And this came out:

mmmmmmmmm! Yummy peanut butter cookies! Something about a snowy day makes me want to bake.

I also got some knitting done on the beret. It's slow going. Sock yarn on small needles = slow knitting. But the yarn is so so so gorgeous, I don't mind. Here's my progress:

I've got about 2 1/2 inches done so far, I've got about 2 more inches to go then I can start decreasing. Today is a good day to sit and knit. This is the yarn I'm using and I'm still in love with it:

I would like to say Thank You for the kind comments on my jammies! I bought more fabric today at Joann to make myself another pair. Nice and bright!

I also got a matching T-shirt and string tie for the waist. It kind of will go with the colors of the beret. Won't I be stylin'!

So tell me, what are you working on?

Knittle

Whenever my grandson sees my knitting he likes to watch and wants to "knittle" (as he says it) with me. He has his own little ball of yarn and some needles to play with. That lasts, oh, maybe four or five minutes, then he's off to play with something else. And I can't knittle anymore because I can't take my eyes off him, he's into everything.

I got the pink camo mitts done. I like them! This yarn was nice to work with.

We got another snowstorm. I think the total for my area is 9 to 10 inches. Lots of the white stuff out there. I didn't go to work, just too much snow. I couldn't get my car out until I shoveled and I couldn't even get to the car until I got rid of the snowdrift between the house and the car. Whew, what a nasty job. Thankfully a neighbor with a snowblower came by and helped. Now I'm all shoveled out and can enjoy the rest of the day.

I get to start a new project! I'm going to go through my stuff and see what says "make me next". I'm leaning towards the beret with the beautiful yarn I recently got. So, for the rest of the day I will be on the couch and I will knittle.

Tomorrow I'll show you the projects I sewed.

Leap Day

Go to work, come home, shovel snow. Repeat. So sick of snow. I wish it only fell on the grass.

I got the scarf for my daughter done. In order to get a good color photo, I took it outside in the snow. Not that we have a shortage of snow these days. I can't wait to give it to her.

Next up: The camo-along, the fingerless mittens made with camoflauge yarn. I got everything ready to start last night, but was just so tired, I didn't get any knitting done. I did finish the book I was reading, A Thousand Splendid Suns. Wow! What a book. An absolutely wonderful read. But what a sad story. I really admire the Afghan women, their strength, the hell they have had to live through. So glad I live in the USA.

Slippery Roads

Yes, of course it's snowing again. Thanks for asking.

It only took me an hour to get home from work. Normally a 20-25 minute drive. So sick of this shit. I have the winter blues so bad. I'm crabby and cranky and just don't know what to do with myself. I don't even have anything on the needles. I've lost my knitting mojo. I tried to get interested in something last night, just couldn't. I'll try again tonight. Maybe knit up some of that nice Cascade 220 I got not too long ago. I have the perfect mitten pattern for it. It's just a matter of getting motivated.

I did a Pay It Forward thing. Put it in the mail today. I hope the person likes it.

Speaking of mail. I'm in a Valentine's Day swap in a Ravelry group. My person received their package yesterday and I got mine in the mail yesterday too.

I'm excited. I'll open it on Thursday. The dreaded V day. The made up by Hallmark day where guys are pressured to buy gifts for women. I don't know if it was always such an awful day, but it just seems to get worse every year.

OK, enough of my whining for today. I have a house, it's warm, I'm home from work, safely, I've got enough food to eat, and I have yarn! I'll be OK.

I Wish I Was In Hawaii

Nasty weather here today. Just plain old wintry nasty weather. From rain to freezing rain to sleet to snow to wind and more snow and it just won't stop. I had a hell of a drive getting home from work. But I made it. Safe and sound. I'm in for the night. Not going anywhere in this crap. A good night to stay inside and knit.

This foreclosure crisis just sucks. My son is losing is house. It's in foreclosure. Today is moving day. In this sucky weather. I feel so bad for him. It breaks my heart. It's bad enough that he has to move but he has to move in this crud.

No pictures today. I'm still working on the pink beret for my daughter. I'm hoping to finish it tonight. I'm still knitting from the stash. I've made it to the 6th already without buying more.

So I will be on my couch tonight with my knitting. I've got one more episode to watch on the season 2 DVD of Grey's Anatomy that I rented. Then I can move on to season 2 disc 3. I didn't watch the program when it first came on the air, but lately have gotten into watching it. I'm really enjoying the DVDs. But first, some dinner. Easy and simple tonight: BLT sandwich. Yummmmmm!

Snow, snow go away

I finally finished the hat, yay me! I found the pattern on Ravelry, "Palindrome Hat". I used Lion Brand Wool Ease in frosted white, it has little strands of some kind of nylon or something that make it looks "frosty". It feels nice and warm. Here it is (don't you love the cat in the background?):

Now I can move on to something new. I've started another pair of fingerless mitts, I just love them. I want to make them in all kinds of patterns and colors and yarns. A fun quick knit. Here is the latest pair:

This yarn is weird though, it's like "bunchy" for lack of a better word. I don't know if it was spun really loosely or what. I just keep pulling on it to straight it out. But the little mitt feels really soft and I like how it's turning out, so I'll keep soldiering on. It seems to be snowing every day lately. So sick of it. But these little mitts are a bright spot in this LONG winter. I'm going to go visit Mom today and show her what I've made, I bet she wants a pair! That's OK, I'll make them for her, anything she wants, I'm just so glad she's home.

And speaking of winter, I bought these slippers from Avon. Aren't they just so darn cute? I love them, just had to show them off.

One more mitten to go

I've been a busy little bee since I got home from work, I think I'm keeping busy so I don't keep worrying and worrying about my mom. Anyway, I made this blanket for my daughter-in-law when I got home. Another homemade gift can be crossed off the list, yay!

Pretty. I like the colors. But . . . when I pan out . . . we have Miss Pixie laying on the bed wishing I would let her lay on the blanket . . .

The cats were circling me like vultures when I was on the floor cutting this thing and tying it. Now, all I have left is one more mitten to knit, and I'm done with Christmas knitting. I can feel some relief coming off my shoulders.

Dad called while I was typing this. Mom has an infection at the surgical site, they are treating with antibiotics and she will be in the hospital for a few days before going back to the nursing home. This is a relief, I was so afraid there would be more surgery. And a big thank you to those with your well wishes! Very much appreciated!

Now, I'm waiting on my most delicious Stouffer's chicken parmesan to finish cooking in the oven, mmmmmmmmmmmmm, another frozen dinner, lol!

And where the heck did that snow come from this morning? It was a nasty nasty slippery scary white knuckle drive to work. I also shoveled that crap when I got home. Keeping busy busy busy.
