New Yarn

I needed some new yarn to pet. Sometimes a knitter JUST needs new yarn. So, I went back to the new local yarn store that recently opened. I've been lusting after this yarn since I went there two weeks ago and didn't buy it. I kept thinking about it, wanting it. I don't know why and I don't know why I didn't buy it when I was there. Just one of those things. I went today and bought it. I have no idea what I'm going to make with it. Maybe an absolutely beautiful dishcloth since I only bought one skein.

And while I was there I signed up for a class. The class isn't until October, but that's OK, I have something to look forward to.

A couple of weeks ago I had a half off coupon for Michaels. I went there and bought this box. Just HAD to have it.

Isn't it pretty? I'm storing all my DPNs in there and circular needles. Plenty of room, and plenty of room for more!

Tomorrow is my daughter's birthday. My sweet baby girl will be 19. Her last year to be a teenager. I'm making her a cake and it's just about time to get it out of the oven. So, I'm off for now. I hope you're having a great weekend!

No Knitting Today

My hands are feeling a little better. The left hand is OK, the right still has some pain, not as bad. I think I'm going to put some Ben-Gay on it tonight when I go to bed and see what happens. I haven't done any knitting since Friday, I'm having withdrawals, but I'm having fun surfing patterns on Ravelry and dreaming and queue-ing. By the way, I was using circular needles when this pain started, not straight needles. I really think I overdid it. So I'll lay off the knitting for another day or so.

A few years ago my son was temporarily living here with his cat. The cat attacked my sewing chair. It looked awful. Like this:

I kept saying I was going to somehow fix it and the years went by and I never got around to it. It finally bugged me enough and I made a little cover for it.

For some reason, I can sew! My hands don't hurt then. I'm so happy, I can still be crafty! It's amazing how much free time I have since I haven't been able to knit. I've been actually making some progress with the book I've been reading, "T is for Trespass" by Sue Grafton. I love her books!

But now I'm hungry. I made some Sloppy Joe's from scratch yesterday, time to go heat some up and eat, yummmmmm!

A New Milestone

Look what I made . . .

My first ever pair of finished socks!

I figured if I started small this time, maybe, just maybe, I could do it, and I did! I know how to knit all the elements needed to make a sock, it was just a matter of putting them all together and doing it. Picking up those little bitty stitches along the heel was a real challenge, but I persevered, and did it. They took me a week to knit, lol! A week for something so tiny.

They are so teeny tiny, and so cute. I didn't make them for anyone in particular as we have no babies in the family and none expected in the near future. I just may frame these!

This is the yarn I used and the needles. The pattern called for US #2 but I didn't think I had any so I used US #1. I used the needles on the left at first. I got them on line somewhere. They were very flexible, some kind of plastic. I hated them. So I bought the steel ones on the right, much better for me! I love working with DPNs.

Now that I have conquered this . . . I feel like I can do anything!

There's no place like home

Mom is home from the nursing home! Hip hip hooray! She sounded so happy yesterday when she called to tell me. There's no place like home! This is the best news ever. A great start to the new year!

I finally got back to knitting Fetching. I just had the second one to do, then got sidetracked with another pair of fingerless mitts. They are so soft and fuzzy. I love them! The color reminds me of a Granny Smith apple. I need to take a break from mittens for a while. My wrists just ache in the middle of the night and get numb and it wakes me up. This happens when I knit mittens. I think it's all those extra little tugs where the DPN's meet up. So, if I lay off mittens for a while this will go away and I'll be fine. I'm now making a hat (for me!) on circular needles. My first project in the round on circulars. I'm excited! Something new to learn!

I was in Target yesterday buying oh such fun household goods, like detergent, soap, etc., when I came across this little piggy bank. I wanted it so bad. It's just so damn cute. It called out "buy me", so I did. It was in their dollar merchandise. So this little piggy now lives in my house. I will feed him spare change and dollar bills until there's a nice little amount built up to go to the LYS and buy something special. I wonder how long this will take.
